Trier, Marc Aurel and the World: International Call for Mail Art, Trier 2025

Hello dear friends all over the world! 

Thank you very much for your numerous submissions. We were delighted to receive your beautiful, original, funny, unusual and artistic cards. 

And yes, the campaign is still running and you can send in more cards - even if you've already entered. For the sake of simplicity, we'll put our first invitation below again. 

Join in and be part of it when all entries are shown in several exhibitions in Trier in the summer and fall. 

We will provide more information about this later. Incidentally, our mail art campaign is part of the official program of the major state exhibition in Rhineland-Palatinate, which is dedicated to Marcus Aurelius as a philosopher. Above all, however, it shows Marcus Aurelius as a war emperor, an unexpectedly topical subject in our present day. And: the famous Porta Nigra in Trier also goes back to his idea of fortifying the important cities in the Roman Empire. 

International Call for Mail Art 

Topic: Trier, Marc Aurel and the World 

Marc Aurel, the great Roman emperor and Stoic philosopher from the 2nd century AD. 

Today, his texts are more modern, up-to-date, popular and inspiring than ever. 

What: Art on postcards. All techniques are allowed. 

All positions on the topic are welcome: History, society, war, nature, ecology, philosophy, politics, religion, Trier ... 

How: Participation is open to everyone. There are no entry fees and no returns. 

The postcards must be accepted, stamped and sent by the post office of the respective country. 

The entries will be shown in several exhibitions during the major exhibition on Marcus Aurelius in Trier. 

If you have already sent a card: Thank you for taking part. If you feel like it, you are welcome to send more cards. We would be delighted.

CREATURES THAT LIVE BETWEEN THE VISIBLE AND INVISIBLE, CLOSE TO US?

REGULATION: 

The participation is free. 

The theme is : Angels 

The technique is free (drawing, painting, boxes, collage etc...NO DIGITAL) any size. The images must have on the back the author's name and surname, title, technique. No return will be provided. The images will not have any other type of use if not the purpose of the project itself. 

Participation in the announcement implies full acceptance of all the articles and clauses of this regulation. Works that carry racial, pedo-pornographic or offensive contents will not be admitted. 

An exhibition will be possible at the date and place that will be defined. The images will be published on instagram and the following blog.

Received document of international mailart project "Homage to Pablo Picasso"

Received document of Lutz Anders' international mail art project "Homage to Pablo Picasso". 304 artists from 43 countries sent in their works. The images of the received mailart works are published on both sides of three A3 sheets: below is scanned only a half of a side of one sheet . Lutz also added three pieces of the special artistamp with my contributing work on it. He has a new mail art project for this year (2024) as well: "Dreamland".

MAIL ART PROJECT HUMAN IS RIGHT!

The school becomes an exhibiting space for contemporary art, creating a dialogue that inspires ideas, critical thinking and creativity turning it into an art expression. Certain that the most powerful tool to change the world is Education, the Vito Scafidi secondary school invites you to take part in this meaningful mail art project: 

Human is right!

The title of the project indicates its main objective, using a word pun from Human to Human is Right: The fight against discriminations and respect for the human being in all the ways in which human beings are both similar and different. It means understanding and accepting the uniqueness of individuals, as well as respecting their differences. Diversity may include, but is not limited to gender identity, sexual orientation; age; ethnic origin; ancestry, culture; socio-economic status; religion; family status; mental and physical disability... using an artistic creative path that will end in an exhibition showcasing the works of our students and participating artists in May 2022. 

The exhibition will be in the premises of the Institute and students will be involved in the artistic process as artists and public. Join us!! 

These are our terms: 

• NO RE-SENDING: the postcards will not be returned to the authors 

• NO PARTICIPATION FEE: no participation fees are required, neither to the authors nor to the public of the exhibition which will be free to enter 

• NO SELECTION: all the works arrived will be exhibited

• FREE TECHNIQUE: you can use the technique you prefer for the creation of your postcard (photography, illustration, collage, mixed, etc. etc. 

• POSTCARD FORMAT: you must send us a work that is in a maximum size of 20x20cm  

• ONLY ORDINARY MAIL, NO E-MAIL  

• you can send us more postcards 

• DEADLINE: postcards must arrive by April 30, 2022

III International Mail Art Call

With truth, security and affection: FROM THE HEART. The heart as the centre. The heart as a driving force. The heart as a motor. The heart as a value. When falsehood, uncertainty and resentment try to triumph excessively in our daily lives, our best weapon (soul) beats strongly in our chest and it is enough to listen and dance to its personal rhythm, with our hearts in our hands.

● THEME / MOTTO: 

DE CORAZÓN · FROM THE HEART 

● TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS: 

Postcard. / Maximum size: 21 x 15 cm (upright position preferably) / Support and technique: Free. / Free intervention using as a pattern the image or icon of a heart attached to these BASES of the Mail Art Call DE CORAZÓN · FROM THE HEART, and can also be used as a simple reference or inspiration. / It is recommended to submit only one work per author having to file any others submitted. 

● DEADLINE: 

8th April 2022, inclusive. / All works sent after that deadline will be discarded. / For those works received by post, the date of the postmark will be taken into account. 

● PARTICIPANTS:

● EDITION: 

All works received will be part of the assembled, experimental and rare magazine PERIFERIA IMAGINARIA no. 5, both in its physical limited edition of 30 non venal copies and in its online edition: periferiaimaginaria.blogspot.com / A physical catalogue of the Call will not be published. 

● EXHIBITION: 

With all the works received for the III International Mail Art CallDE CORAZÓN· FROM THE HEART, a final exhibition will be held at the Villa de Móstoles Cultural Centre (Móstoles, Madrid, Spain), from 1st June to 24th July 2022.

Works can be sent both by traditional postal mail (preferably without an envelope, duly franked and the support being the work itself), as well as online
